How to reach:

Description:
  • The flattest of the four cycling routes, through an idyllic piece of the Flemish Ardennes, near Contreras brewery, which makes the delicious beer Valeir.
  • Seven possible beer stops on the way, in two age-old water mills, two unique village pubs, two pub-restaurants and one beautiful field pub. Delicious beers everywhere!
  • Small charming villages, vast panoramas, the rippling Zwalmbeek and a beautiful arm of the Scheldt River.
  • Easy to reach from Ghent, via the towpath along the Scheldt River. Ideal for electric bicycles!

StapAf pub tips:

  • De IJzerkotmolen is open every day from March to November. It offers regional beers, delicious waffles, pancakes and a tasty sandwich with country ham. Ideal for regaining your strength.
  • On the other side of the road you'll find Restaurant Ter Swaelm. It's great for those with a large appetite.
  • A bit further along the Zwalmbeek you'll find the old miller's house of the IJzerkot Mill, which is currently a tavern called Klein Zwitserland. Another must for delicious regional beers and some peace and quiet.
  • In Herberg De Rotse you can enjoy delicious food but sometimes you have to make a reservation. Children will have lots of fun playing here. The inn has a large car park and the entire neighbourhood is wonderfully tranquil. Inside there is also a play are for children.
  • Past Herberg De Rotse, in the centre of Dikkelvenne, you can visit the witches in De Betoverde Maan, a village pub that is super cosy on weekends.
  • In De Casino a wood-burning stove is lit in the winter. Sometimes waffles are baked on the stove; you can add icing sugar and eat them for free. As many as you want! Delicious with a Valeir beer. In the summer months you can enjoy the outdoors in the quiet garden.
